William Suen, renowned chef and culinary visionary, has left an indelible mark on the world of gastronomy through his exceptional talent, passion for food, and unwavering commitment to excellence.
William, often called ‘Wai Gor’, has been at the helm of Chairman and Yip’s kitchen for 30 years. He is originally from Macau, and honed his skills there and in Hong Kong in both Chinese and Western kitchens before arriving in Canberra in the late 1980s.
He started with the much-loved Madam Yip in Dickson before the opening of Chairman and Yip in 1993. The establishment soon gained a reputation for its sophisticated blend of traditional Chinese flavours and contemporary Western influences.
Under William’s culinary leadership, Chairman & Yip’s offerings were elevated to unparalleled heights, and the restaurant was awarded numerous accolades and recognition in prestigious food guides.
William’s signature dishes, often inspired by his memories and experiences, seamlessly fused classic Cantonese techniques with modern gastronomic trends, showcasing his ability to create culinary masterpieces that appealed to both the traditional and contemporary palate.
