4/69 Mitchell Street, Darwin
With temperatures around 30 degrees all year round, Darwin’s climate provides perfect beer-drinking weather, and at Six Tanks Brewing Co., nobody is going thirsty.
Six Tanks, which first opened its doors in late 2016, takes its name from the six impressive 1,000-litre fermentation tanks that sit behind the bar. The brewpub boasts 26 taps featuring their own range of beers, which are brewed on site, as well as guest taps from breweries around Australia and all over the world.
The Six Tanks range includes brews such as their popular summer ale, an IPA, a session IPA, a hopped hazelnut amber ale, a pilsner, a lager, and a citra sparkling ale. However, if you are eager to try something outside of their regular range, brews that range from sours to summer ales and stouts feature on regular rotation.
As one of the Northern Territory’s first craft breweries, Six Tanks is on a mission to bring Darwin locals the freshest and coldest beer in town. When it comes to major Australian cities, Darwin has probably been the most recent to jump on board the craft beer bandwagon. Nevertheless, Head Brewer, Dane Jones, has been eager to use the experience he gained working at a number of breweries throughout his hometown of Newcastle and down south in Melbourne.
Six Tanks’ carefully crafted range of beers is paired perfectly with the brewpub’s refined menu. All of the classics are available, many of which are infused with a few splashes of Six Tanks’ beer. Fan favourites include Six Tanks’ famous “Death Hot Wings” (eat if you dare), slow-cooked meats and wood-fired pizzas, as well as generous cheese and antipasto plates designed for sharing. Those looking to sink their teeth into something a little more substantial will not be disappointed by Six Tanks’ impressive steaks. Though beer is understandably the main game, Six Tanks does not shy away from cocktails – be it an Espresso Martini or fruity Porn Star Martini with passionfruit and mango.
Currently, the Six Tanks range is only available at their Mitchell Street brewpub, so this is definitely your best bet when it comes to getting your hands on a hopped hazelnut amber ale. While it may be a small establishment, these guys are setting a standard for craft brewing across the whole of the Northern Territory. There is so much room for growth when it comes to the Darwin hospitality scene and the likes of Six Tanks are leading the charge - their presence is most certainly felt.
With daily menu specials, regular parties and more craft brews than you can possibly hope to cram into a session, Six Tanks Brew Co. is a beer lover’s dream in the NT.
