St Hugo

2141 Barossa Valley Way, Rowland Flat

Fine dining restaurant in the Barossa Valley

South Australia’s Barossa Valley is known for its outstanding red wine production and nowhere is this more obvious than at St Hugo. The historic winery, located in Rowland Flat, produces a cellar-worthy collection of drops, best enjoyed in their wine lounge or with lunch at the elegant restaurant found within the winery grounds.

St Hugo was established in 1983 to pay homage to the Gramp family’s lifelong devotion to, and connection with, the Barossa region. As pioneers of the region, the Gramps can be credited with playing a big role in establishing the strong food and wine culture that the Barossa has become so well- known for.

Arguably the best way to sample St Hugo wines is at the property where they were created. Here, St Hugo offers a sensory journey for all – the full range of wines can be enjoyed from the comfort of a plush sofa at the wine lounge, in a private underground tasting room, or as part of the fine dining experience at the restaurant.

Within the walls of this intimate, 44-seater restaurant, you can enjoy your choice of four or eight courses as part of the degustation menu. No matter the number of courses, you’ll be treated to a visual feast, as you gaze through the floor to ceiling windows at the rows of vines beyond.

Executive Chef, Mark McNamara, oversees the impressive lunch and dinner menus, bringing an extensive understanding of local and seasonal produce to his role. With more than two decades of experience in the region, Mark has been inducted as a Baron of the Barossa for his efforts to build awareness of local produce and cuisine.

Mark has crafted two degustation menus that complement the St Hugo wine offerings – he understands that here, wine comes first. Mark assesses each ingredient he uses to ensure every dish enhances the characteristics of the selected wine. A meal at St Hugo is a seamless dining experience; local food and wine do not compete for the top spot but work together to provide a wholesome experience for the guest.

For an experience to remember, book a spot at the interactive Chef’s Table. Start with a glass of wine and enjoy a guided tour and tasting with the in-house sommelier, before finishing with a delicious degustation. Not simply a dinner, you will have the opportunity to interact with Mark and his team, discuss ingredients and techniques and delve into food and wine philosophies.

At St Hugo, wine is the focus, though what is wine without food? Whether you’re visiting the property for lunch or dinner, the St Hugo restaurant offers a distinctly Barossa experience, pairing some of the region’s best wines and produce in the one place.
