136 Greenhill Road, Unley
From picturesque Greenhill Road, the blooming greenery and fountaining ferns welcome you to the city oasis of Whistle & Flute. Don’t be misled by the busy traffic zooming past, once inside the soothing beats spun by the resident DJs will drown out the traffic and all the worries of the world, setting the perfect scene for you to enjoy a delectable meal and soak up the good vibes.
Whistle & Flute is the brainchild of Josh Baker, who is behind the much-loved Adelaide venues, Clever Little Tailor, Pink Moon Saloon and Coffee Branch. Josh envisioned an inviting atmosphere where everyone would feel welcome, whether you’re strolling past in your fitness gear, grabbing a latte to-go on your way to the office, or celebrating with a glass of champagne over brunch, because why not?
Open for coffee, breakfast and lunch daily, brunch on Saturdays and supper on Fridays, Whistle & Flute is covering all bases. As per its namesake, ‘Whistle and Flute’, which is cockney slang for ‘suits’, this Adelaide hotspot is the perfect place for after-work drinks. Alternatively, you can sit amongst the lush greenery and rustic exposed concrete and timber interiors in the sunlight with your four-legged friends, who are welcomed with open arms at this versatile venue. Matiya Marovich of Sans Arc Studios and Carlo Jensen of Peculiar Famila are responsible for the design of the space, leaving all who enter feeling comfortable and ready for a feast.
When it comes to the food on offer, Head Chef, Stewart Wesson, is committed to supporting local farmers and producers, as well as utilising modern cooking techniques. As a result, his menu boasts generous portions that will keep you satisfied all day long.
Start your day right with Blue Swimmer Crab Scrambled Eggs on Toast or Coconut and Chia Pudding. Whistle & Flute’s lunch menu features both small and large bites, with the crowd favourites being the Chicken Liver Pate with sour cherry jam and the Tofu Miso Broth with soba noodles and bok choy.
To drink, the menu puts a cheeky spin on its division between ‘stimulants’ with everything from your cold brew to organic spiced chai to fresh juices, or ‘depressants’ with a range of rotating draught beers and local wines and spirits to choose from.
Celebrating the weekend has never been easier than at Whistle & Flute, with its kitchen opening for supper on Friday evenings and boozy brunches on Saturday morning. Local DJs appear every Friday night alongside the exclusive Friday night supper menu.
The Moroccan Sweet Potato Fries are so good you’ll be coming back for more, and you can just a few short hours later for Saturday brunch. Whether you’re in need of a Nutritious Brekkie Bowl, or Poached Eggs and Bacon with a double espresso to nurse your hangover, there truly is an option for everyone.
