Wirra Wirra is not your average winery. With an overarching ethos of ‘serious about wine, but not much else’, the team celebrates life though its historic Cellar Door and delicious Deli. Whether you’re visiting the winery in the stunning McLaren Vale, or sampling a drop of their famous wine at home, a Wirra Wirra experience will be a unique and memorable one.

Wirra Wirra Vineyards was initially established in 1894 by eccentric Aussie cricketer, Robert Wigley. After his death in 1926, Wirra Wirra fell into disarray, that is until Greg Trott and his cousin Roger rebuilt the winery from its crumbling shell in 1969. Modern day Wirra Wirra – an Aboriginal term meaning among the gum trees – continues to embody both Greg and Roger’s infectious determination to embrace and enjoy every aspect of life.

Greg in particular is also credited with putting Wirra Wirra wines on the map after creating the first vintage of the renowned Church Block in 1972. Since then, Wirra Wirra has continued to grow, developing a strong following for its intense, beautifully crafted red wines and expressive whites.

Senior Winemaker, Paul Smith, continues this legacy, boasting a long and diverse career as a South Australian winemaker, with stints at Petaluma as well as wineries throughout the Clare Valley. Since arriving at Wirra Wirra in 2008. Paul’s mantra has been to “let the fruit shine” and showcase the character of the vineyard site where it was grown.

To achieve this, Paul will spend hours walking between the vines, tasting fruit and chatting with growers to ensure he appreciates and understands that year’s crop.

For the creation of their acclaimed white wines, Wirra Wirra sources white grapes from a select group of vineyards in the Adelaide Hills. This region has a reputation for producing some of Australia’s best cool climate wines and is integral to the success of Wirra Wirra’s award-winning sauvignon blanc, riesling and chardonnay.

The full range of red and white wines are available for tasting at the beautiful and historic Cellar Door. Once you’ve tasted your way through the range of McLaren Vale reds and Adelaide Hills whites, head across to the newly developed Harry’s Deli for a quick bite or lazy lunch. Grab a seat inside or, weather permitting, sit outside and admire the beautiful gardens and vineyards. Offering a simple menu of regional produce, Harry’s Deli is the perfect place to refuel when you’re touring the region.

Seasonal platters, market specials, paninis, locally made cakes and brownies all appear on the menu, accompanied by a selection of wines by the glass as well as cafe favourites like local coffees and teas.
