UK born and NZ raised, Sam Christopher moved to Melbourne in his early 20’s. Initially viewing Melbourne as a stepping stone to London, he fell in love with the city, its vibrant culture and it’s food scene, which he felt rivalled that of New York or London. He was there for over a decade.

He started out at Transport Hotel in Federation Square, before moving to Cicciolina in St. Kilda. Then in the early 2000’s Sam was a part of the opening team at Golden Fields in St. Kilda. His last stop in Melbourne, before heading to SA was Supernormal.

Sam moved to SA after reading about Jock Zonfrillo in one of his favourite chef magazines, Fool Magazine (#5). He knew little of native ingredients but his curiosity drove him to learn. His time at Orana proved enlightening - working in Australia for 15+ years and having not encountered Indigenous Australian ingredients, pushed him to shine a light on native produce and culture.

Sam’s current goal at 2KW is simple. To bring a sense of memory and love into the food. Using premium local and native Australian ingredients, Sam’s menus bring culinary theatre to the rooftop diner, where you’ll find him at the helm of the Josper oven or out on the floor, carving at the table and pouring sauces.

Sam said, “I love South Australia. The coast, the hills. Our local growers and producers are amazing and I want to showcase this. Making people happy through great food, good wine and excellent service is my passion - now I get to do it on the 2KW rooftop! The food needs to reflect that. I want people to feel like they could be in London, New York, Singapore or Tokyo.”
