Les Bistronomes was founded in 2014 by two French men with a desire to extend Bistronomie to Canberra. Originally located in Braddon for four years, the restaurant moved to the community suburb of Campbell in 2019, where Clément Chauvin has become the sole owner and Executive Chef.

The ethos is to create good food and good service in a homely, relaxed atmosphere. The venue strives to deliver this every day, and with owner and Executive Chef Clément Chauvin at the helm, French gastronomy is very much at the forefront of the menu.

Clément is a specialist in bringing old-time French classics into the light of modern cuisine, and he offers two ways to discover it while dining at Les Bistronomes. Either choose à la carte, where you can select three courses from the à la carte menu, which ranges from seasonal dishes to traditional classics, or the six-course Dégustation, where you will be surprised by a stunning sample of tasting dishes from either the menu or possible new creations.

Expect to find all your favourite French dishes, including Clement’s favourite dish, the traditional Steak Tartare with cured egg yolk and smoked sweet potato tuille. Clement learnt to cook this dish at Le Caro de Lyon, and he says he could eat it three times a day.

Another traditional item on his menu is Le Bœuf Bourguignon Braised Beef Cheeks in Burgundy Wine, with Paris mash and Dutch carrots. You will also find the recipe for this Bœuf en Croute Beef Wellington with mushroom duxelles and foie gras in the recipe section to taste the flavour of ultimate French cuisine at home. Don’t forget to top your meal off with a typical French dessert, like La Crème Brulée Flambée au Cointreau.
